The factors that determine what\u00a0responder’s second\u00a0call should be are the context<\/span>\u00a0of the previous bids and the\u00a0shape<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0strength<\/span>\u00a0of your hand.<\/p>\nContextual Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Are you a\u00a0passed hand<\/span>?<\/li>\n
- Did opener\u00a0limit<\/span>\u00a0her hand?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Hand Quality Factors (These apply anytime)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Distribution<\/span>. \u00a0Do I have long suits or shortness?\n
\n- N.B.: \u00a0Shortness in\u00a0partner’s<\/span>\u00a0suit(s) is\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0necessarily an asset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
- General Strength<\/span>. \u00a0Is my hand minimum, game invitational, game going, or better opposite a minimal opener?\n
\n- Minimal Responder:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>6 \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>9 \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0points. \u00a0 “We don’t have a game. \u00a0Unless you have extras let’s just find a playable part score.”<\/li>\n
